Dear Parents/Guardians,
I have never been prouder to be a part of the ACA community. This new strange reality is not the ending of the school year that we had anticipated or wanted, but you all have risen to the occasion and taken this challenge head on. I know that we are all processing the move to remote learning and working from home. And while our campus may be closed, it is only the closure of a physical space, not of the community, mission, and work that binds us all together.
Remember to take a break, go for a walk or sit outside and enjoy the weather while we can.
Have your child do a coloring activity or put together a puzzle.
Play some soft music in the background to reduce the tension and stress.
Take deep breaths, try a new form of exercise, play a board game for 15 minutes.
Text a friend and give yourself as a parent 15-30 minutes of time for yourself.
That sense of community has never been more evident than over the past ten days. The staff at ACA has put in countless hours behind the scenes to get our online learning platform up and running. As parents, I know you are putting in the hours ensuring that your child is learning and not missing out on the last quarter of the 2019-2020 school year. The upcoming weeks will bring a variety of challenges, and I encourage you to continue to reach out and ask questions. Our goal is to come out of this stronger and to support each other during this time period. Here are some answers to some questions that you might have:
Starting the week of April 13th we will be moving to live and recorded lessons Monday through Thursday. Friday will be a day dedicated to tutoring, reaching out for students who are stuck, and letting students get their assignments completed, ask questions and turn in assignments. For parents and students looking for additional material, this would be the time to focus on MobyMax (K-8) , Lexia (K-5) , PowerUp for (6-8) or participate in recorded electives that have been posted throughout the week.
Live sessions are not required. Each teacher who hosts a live class will also post an online recording of that day’s lesson – your child has the option to view the lesson either way.
Kinder and first grade should be spending about 2 hours, 5 days a week.
Second and Third Grade should be spending about 2.5-3 hours, 5 days a week.
Fourth and Fifth Grade should be spending about 3-4 hours per day, 5 days a week.
Sixth through Eighth should be spending about 4-5 hours per day, 5 days a week.
If you find you are doing a lot more of the required work please reach out to your teacher or myself and we will set up a time to determine how to meet the needs of your child.
Recordings of a live session take some time to convert and upload and will be available to view the next morning no later than 9am.
Assignments do not have to be done M-F. We understand that families are dealing with a variety of circumstances which may require the need for creative scheduling. The teachers grade assignments at the end of each week, therefore allowing students to get them done daily, or all in one swoop. Your child has until Saturday evening to get their work turned it.
Watching the lesson is part of the curriculum, however your child will also have an assignment – an Exit Ticket, Galileo question, or workbook page to submit. K-1 can submit these through the portfolio component on Class Dojo. 2nd – 8th grade use Galileo to capture their student’s work. Additionally, 4th – 8th grade students have an ACA email address and access to Teams, where all of their assignments can be turned in, links for live lessons can be found, and directions from the teacher are located.
Specials are absolutely optional. We want to provide your child with all of the opportunities they would have gotten at school and know that for many of our kids during this uncertain time, a creative outlet is a necessity. Please know that your child does not have to attend these classes, they truly are meant to be a fun outlet for your child. Live classes are also recorded and then uploaded so students can participate at a later time.
Each teacher hosts office hours, this is a time for students to ask questions regarding content or expectations and get some one on one assistance from their teacher. These are not required, but are a chance to have questions answered as needed.
The state is requiring that we track student progress throughout April and May however; we can also help you to determine what to prioritze.
We have implemented new security features to our Zoom meetings to ensure that our students have a safe learning environment.
ACA administrators and teachers know that you did not choose to home school and we are here to support you. If you find yourself stressed, confused or just need someone to help you sort through what is a priority please just reach out to us.
We appreciate everything that you are doing as parents and recognize that these are unprecedented times. Thank you for your grace and patience with us, out of all the things we have planned for this year, moving to a digital platform in the middle of the school year was not one that we had anticipated. I am hopeful that we can use the COVID-19 crisis time to find new ways to connect and work together. In true bulldog fashion, we will rise up to the challenge. We can and we will!

Nunca me sentí más orgullosa de ser parte de la comunidad de ACA. Esta nueva y extraña realidad no es el final del año escolar que habíamos anticipado o deseado, pero todos ustedes han estado a la altura de las circunstancias y han asumido este desafío de frente. Recuerde tomar un descanso, salir a caminar o sentarse afuera y disfrutar del clima mientras podamos.
Haga que su hijo haga una actividad de colorear o armar un rompecabezas.
Ponga música suave de fondo para reducir la tensión y el estrés.
Respire hondo, pruebe una nueva forma de ejercicio, juegue un juego de mesa durante 15 minutos.
