1st Graders Studying Dinosaur Fossils

Did you know there are dinosaur bones buried in the playground at ACA?! Mrs. Keldgord's 1st grade class is studying dinosaurs and paleontology. They even participated in their own archaeological dig by the swing sets and uncovered dinosaur fossils! After they excavated the bones, they got together in groups and put together what they found. Then they headed back to their classrooms where they studied the different dinosaurs and discussed the different dinosaurs. After discussing the dinosaurs they excavated, they watched a few videos that discussed the dinosaurs, saw pictures of what they looked like in prehistoric days and learned about their behaviors and diets. Former ACA Faculty and ACA Alumni Success Story!

Shika Gaines is a former ACA student turned ACA faculty member which is a lovely notion all on it's own. She recently took a break from teaching to have a sweet baby girl born just last year, named Zion Renee. But beyond that, we are proud of Shika's other big project, and that is becoming a published author! We would encourage you to visit her site www.shikatheauthor.com and check out what she's been up to! Shika says with her book "Janyra's First Day", she "hopes that Janyra's courage will motive children all over the world to make others honor his or her unique names". Her book is currently available for pre-order. We're proud of you, Shika!

Students will write about the text and share how they were inspired and what their interpretations of what it means to be "unlimited". 1st Grade: 1st graders will read Through My Eyes the Ruby Bridges Story and wi

No Bully Zone!

ACA's Campus has been all a flutter with some very special guests for the last few weeks bringing a very special message. Arizona Charter Academy has partnered with World Slam Dunk Champions Kenny Dobbs and Gary Smith and the makers of the no bully app, Raadr to bring an amazing series of No Bully activities to the campus. It all started with an amazing assembly attended by all ACA students. Kenny and Gary gave students a fun demonstration of their slam dunk skills and even played a little 2 on 2 basketball with some ACA students. Then they broke it down and go serious about the importance of being a leader and not a follower. They did a heart touching and emotional role playing skit showing
