ACA Kindergartner's Learn About Their 5 Senses

All of the ACA Kindergarten classes have been discussing their 5 senses for the past few weeks. Last week they were able to do hands on experiments with their 5 senses. ACA's 5th graders were there to help facilitate the experiments and are a tremendous help! Touch Taste and Sight Hear Smell

ACA Middle School Girls Attend Women in STEM Empowerment Breakfast

The YWCA hosted their annual Women's Empowerment Series, Women in STEM Leadership breakfast at the Arizona Science Center on September 27th. A group of Integrated Academy of Studies girls attended with Technology Teacher Mrs. Benson. The group got to see a panel discussion from women leaders in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. The point of the breakfast is to "inspire women to advocacy and empower women to further pursue their personal and career dreams" (Ywcaaz.org) After the breakfast, the attendees were encouraged to explore the Science Center and our girls had a great time!

ACA's Middle School Empower Class Speaks to City of Surprise Council Meeting

A group of ACA Middle School students were asked to open the City of Surprise City Council meeting on Tuesday September 19th. Students were asked to lead the Pledge of Allegiance at the beginning of the meeting and then were asked to talk about what their Empower class was and why it was important to them. Student Dayanara Solis, says "Empower is a class that will influence you into being a good person. It encourages you to do good things in life. For example, in class, I learned and we are trying to prevent bullying." Student Cassandra Lopez, says "Empower helped me learn what sacrifices the people before us had to do in order to get where we are now." Great job being a voice for good!

ACA Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from September 15th-October 15th. At ACA we find unique ways to incorporate observing Hispanic Heritage Month throughout the school. Here are a few ways our classrooms will be celebrating: Kindergarten will be coloring the Mexico flag, and will also talk about the different Latin American countries and find them on the globe. Kindergarten Art will be listening to a read aloud of Adelita by Tomie dePaola 1st grade will be learning a poem about Cesar Chávez and reading his biography. Students will be illustrating a scene about César Chávez and adding a caption. They will bind all the students pages to make a class book. Students will also be teaching the

ACA Students and Teachers Sending Love and Support to Schools Affected by Hurricane Harvey

We've been seeing the news and by now we all know Hurricane Harvey has created a huge burden on the communities in Texas. We at ACA have found a few ways to give back. School Supply Drive Mrs. Allen (Kindergarten) is hosting a school supply drive for Roy Guess Elementary in Beaumont, Texas. Their neighborhood was under water and was one of the worst hit areas. Mrs. Allen's class has decided to step in and help the local school with restocking a few of the supplies that were lost in the flooding. They will be discussing human kindness and global awareness in their class and will be putting that lesson into action. They will be collecting the following items: -gift cards -pencils -glue -sciss

The book fair starts Tuesday September 5th and lasts through Friday September 8th.
